Our Story
The Black Cat’s Apothecary was formed at a crossroads. Born from a love of nature and an interest in all things folk magic, I aim to someday offer a unique combination of herbal products, intuitive readings, and online gatherings for all who find themselves a tad bit curious with a taste for chaos. For now, we are starting where we’re at with virtual tarot readings.
Connecting folks with what feels natural is at the heart of all I provide. It is my hope that through connecting with my own guides and ancestors along with partnering with yours to provide intuitive tarot readings, you will walk away feeling more connected to yourself, your roots, and your own power.
Black Cats have long represented a source of mystery, dark omens, and iconic folk lessons. Sometimes acting as a bridge between worlds, or even fae creatures and deities themselves. It is this curiosity with all things odd and unseen that led me to create The Black Cat’s Apothecary. Someday, I hope it will be a place for the weird and wonderful to gather, learn, and grow together in community.
I hope you feel at home here.
Kindly,
Monica - Founder of the Black Cat’s Apothecary
“Elfin cats (cait shìth) are explained to be of a wild, not a domesticated, breed, to be as large as dogs, of a black colour, with a white spot on the breast, and to have arched backs and erect bristles (crotach agus mùrlach). Many maintain these wild cats have no connection with the Fairies, but are witches in disguise.”
Campbell, John Gregorson (1900). "Superstitions of the Highlands & Islands of Scotland". p. 32
Why “Black Cat’s Apothecary”?
Early on in my journey of reconnecting with spirit, remembering my innate magic, and inviting the warm support of my ancestors, guides, and higher self on ‘the other side’ into my every day life, I was given a couple of confusing visuals…
All of the sudden I started having black cats pop into my meditations! In silly ways within my own meditations, and even in gatherings with other intuitive community members. For a few weeks I was “plagued” by these new companions. They made me laugh and continued to confuse anyone who was blessed enough to have them interrupt our time together.
So I did what any good witch would do.
I ignored it.
One day, they came back up in a moment of connection with my guides and I finally cracked. I had to ask… “what the heck is WITH these black cats??”
I heard that there was a Black Cat Apothecary. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that, so naturally I had to Google the term and figure out if there was a place like that near me.
Nothing.
I felt pretty silly when I came back to them another time asking,“Okay what the heck is the Black Cat Apothecary then??”.
Silence.
“Is this something I’m supposed to do or create??”
And like a smack on the head, a “FINALLY. Yes!” echoed in my mind milliseconds after I asked the question…
I’ve yet to have such a funny and obvious interaction from my guides that makes so little sense in the grand scheme of things. But who am I to argue with them (any more than I already do, of course).
So here we are.
I did the thing and created it, not really knowing why, or what the significance is, but trusting that if I ‘follow the breadcrumbs’ it will lead me to where I’m supposed to go. :)
